The opening conference “Groundwater – Making Invisible Visible!”

The Ministry of Climate and Energy (MoCE) is organizing the opening conference “Groundwater – Making Invisible Visible!” within the framework of the Swiss – Latvian Cooperation Programme. The conference will take place on March 20, 2025, in Aizkraukle County, at Likteņdārzs. Residents of Aizkraukle Municipality and anyone interested are invited to participate!

 

The focus of the conference will be discussions on the importance of groundwater resources in our lives, their protection, and sustainable management. In honor of World Water Day (March 22), the topic will highlight its relevance, especially for Aizkraukle Municipality and its residents. Along with the opening of the conference, MoCE is launching the implementation of the Swiss-Latvian cooperation program “Remediation of Historical Pollution”. The Programme will ensure the remediation of historical pollution (improving environmental quality) in territory of national importance in Aizkraukle, including territory cleanup works.

 

The conference will be opened by Kaspars Melnis, the Minister of Climate and Energy, H.E. Martin Michelet, the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Latvia and Leons Līdums, the Chairman of the Aizkraukle County Council. The conference will address historical pollution issues in Latvia, the Programme’s contribution to the protection of water resources and the health of residents, as well as provide insight into the essential importance of water resources in the everyday lives of the local community in Aizkraukle.

It has already been announced that the agreement for the mentioned Programme “Remediation of Historical Pollution” was signed on November 12, 2024.
