On March 4, the first steering committee meeting of the Swiss-Latvian cooperation program “Stronger Work-Based Learning for the Development of VET in Latvia” was held at the Ministry of Education and Science. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Finance, the State Education Development Agency, sectoral organizations, companies, and the Swiss Cooperation Office in Latvia.
The meeting was opened by Rolands Ozols, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science. Discussions focused on the program’s implementation progress, funding utilization, risk management, and future development steps to strengthen the vocational education system in Latvia.
The steering committee noted that the program is now entering the active implementation phase and that its execution is proceeding as planned. The use of financial resources aligns with the initial stage of the project, and identified risks are manageable, with no additional corrective measures currently needed.
Special attention was given to the program’s first component – the development of a new vocational education model and examination center, involving sectoral organizations and companies more closely. Industry representatives shared their experiences from previous cooperation with Swiss partners and upcoming pilot projects.
The program’s second component will soon announce an open competition for higher education institutions to develop a professional continuing education program that strengthens work-based learning and meets industry needs.
The goal of the Swiss-Latvian cooperation program is to strengthen work-based learning and improve the vocational education system in Latvia, promoting closer collaboration between educational institutions and companies.
